Acting
What do the people in NYC and LA know that you don’t? They have been effectively trained to create the reality of the characters world and had the chance to develop their own unique acting technique. We bring our extensive professional experience and teaching philosophy to San Antonio and now you have the same opportunity right here in Texas! You’ll learn to trust and believe in your talent and create dynamic and fully realized characters. Classes include scene preparation, character development, vocal quality and projection through exercises, monologues, scenes and cold readings. You will develop self-confidence in performance and oral presentations as you recognize and learn to use the underlying emotions that drive all people.
Acting On-Camera
You can’t cheat on camera, you have to be real, and these classes offer a specific emphasis on the subtlety and reality necessary to work effectively on screen. The size of the performance has to be controlled while the emotional reality and drive is elevated so you “pop” off the screen. Cold readings, scenes, monologues and commercials are used as you work on camera during each class. You work on camera so each week you become more comfortable with the camera. You’ll learn camera technique, terminology and the etiquette of working “on set”.
Broadway Prep
Our Broadway Prep classes offer professional-level Musical Theatre training at its finest. If you’re not a professional, but dream of being a star on stage, this is the program for you. “Musical” – the vocal quality and dance aspects of the performance and “Theatre” – the emotional and verbal aspects. A performer must understand the emotional truth that motivates the lyric and how it fits within the story so it can be delivered effectively. Great performances are not solely dependent on a beautiful voice. These classes will challenge the student to become a more complete musical theatre performer in voice, movement, emotional fullness and stagecraft so the actor creates a memorable performance, bringing him or her closer than ever to becoming a triple threat!
Broadway Prep. Jr. and Sr. are intensive classes designed to train students in the skills required to be effective e Musical theater performers. Singing, vocal performance, acting and choreography are all included in the class. The focus is Musical Theater so the vocal material used will be from published plays that have been produced. This is not the class to work on Pop or Rock songs, that material is best worked on in Private Voice Classes. With young performers the parents should expect to participate in the process of finding on-line the monologues and sons used in the class. We will give you all the resources necessary to find material and the process of choosing is part of the adult/child growth necessary to support the dreams of the performer. If you hit a stumbling block we will always assist you but the goal is to have you create a resource library that will be necessary as your student grows.
Mandatory: First Class is considered Orientation and Parents and Students must be present. Jazz shoes and jazz pants are necessary for the choreography and performance elements of the class and a resource list is provided where those items can be purchased because the student will need them into the future. Older students should also have Character Shoes because they will become mandatory throughout the years and they can be purchased through the same stores.
Private Voice Classes
Voice classes at PASA incorporate traditional vocal training, placement, breath support, musicality and diction with a fuller emphasis on motivation and character creating a complete vocal performance. Classes are one hour in length and are scheduled either once a week or once every two weeks. Practice material is provided for the student to work on at home.
